Pagpapahiyang
Contextualizing Christianity to Recipient Indigenous Cultures

This book gets published almost two decades after Cultural Redemption, as theoretical framework and practical ministry, began to take roots and bear fruit. Its chapters, in part or in full, were first delivered as oral messages in various symposia, conferences, lectures and other gatherings in the Philippines and abroad. Then those bits and pieces of works were compiled in a tentative anthology titled PAANO MAGING PILIPINONG KRISTIANO Becoming a Filipino Christianpublished in 1997. That initial compilation was reworked, edited, enriched and tempered by 12 more years of solid work on the ground and now comes into your hands asPAGPAPAHIYANG. Contextualizing Christianity in Indigenous Recipient Cultures. The Philippine Experience.

The road from PAANO… to PAGPAPAHIYANG, if there ever was a road, was never an easy one. Hostile resistance and aggressive opposition came from everywhere and everyone: congregations, seminaries, other institutions and various individuals who misunderstood, judged and shunned Cultural Redemption. Were were ostracized, maligned and branded.

Now, that’s history. Major institutions no longer call us names and many church personages no longer squirm when we use gongs in liturgy. But while our most rabid critics had been silenced either by enlightenment or irrelevance, our work is not yet done. We have just  begun. The artistic heritage of the nations, condemned by culturally destructive evangelization, is still begging for redemption.

Magnanakaw! Magnanakaw!
Thieves that Rob Us of Happiness

“Magnanakaw!

That’s exactly the point of this book: to expose thieves (that rob people not of things but of happiness), and how the victims themselves could be parties to the crime.

People get robbed of happiness by thieves like lust, anger, perfectionism, grief, guilt feelings, compulsiveness, and insecurity.

This book proposes answers—from the Bible, no less! Written by Pastor Ed Lapiz whose books and message tapes bring immeasurable joy, comfort and strength to innumerable people all over the world. A must-read for people who want to be happy and shout “Magnanakaw, magnanakaw… Good-bye!”

Sa Tao ang Ngawa,
Sa Diyos ang Awa!
Man Complains, God Answers

Napakahirap ng buhay!
Kawawa naman ako!
Walang-wala ako!
Sawa na ako sa buhay!

Ang daming reklamo ng tao!
Puro hinagpis! Puro daing!

Nakatatawa. Nakaiiyak. Nakaaaliw. At dahil Bible-based ang diskurso, nakapagpapalakas ng loob. Nakapagpapatapang. Nakagiginhawa. Totoo nga naman na bawa’t ngawa,

Peace:
Ang Sikreto ng
Tahimik na Buhay

“Peace on earth!”
“World peace.”
“Peace, man.”
“Peace I give to you.”
Everybody wants and needs peace. But how?
Some insist it can be achieved only by fighting, winning and then prevailing.
Others suggest it comes through passive resistance or just plain passiveness and resignation.
Still others think it comes by spiritual detachment from the world.
This little book joins the fray and, with challenging insights and uplifting humor that Ed Lapiz is known for, offers exciting ideas on how to enjoy a peaceful, restful life.

Bago Tumalon...

Suicidal? Magtigil ka!
You have all the opportunities to die and all the time to be dead.
So bakit magmamadali?
Bago mag-suicide, dapat munang magtanong, magsuri at mag-isip-isip.
Kung api ka at kawawa, why not torture your oppressors with your long life?
So, huwag muna. Stop. Basahin ito at ibangon, pasayahin at buhaying muli ang iyong one and only self. Read and share this. You could save someone’s life!)
Basta, masarap mabuhay.

The Power of A Mother’s Prayer

But they have a greater power siya nating tatalakayin:  ang kapangyarihan ng dalangin ng isang ina.

Isang pamilyar na kasaysayan ang ating tunghayan.

Matthew 15:21-28 -  Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession.” Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.” He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.” The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.” “Yes, Lord,” she said, “but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

What do You
Fear to Lose?

Sabi niya, “The fear of loss is a path to the dark side.” And I said to myself, it’s a very biblical concept.

What do we fear to lose? What do most people fear to lose that can lead to the so-called dark side?

Etiquette for Texters

The greatness of God compels us to apply His word to daily life, to big and small issues of our lives.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Even and very especially for the 21st century life and this phenomenon called texting, mahalagang i-apply ang salita ng Dios.
